Our apartment was 3 blocks from one of the most developed parts of the island. We went for a walk. Our destination was the sunset beach, called Bulabog beach, and it was the afternoon. We walked across the main road and found our way through a maze of pedestrians and  walkways in the area known as D Mall. Shenzhen in January of 2020 was a place changing. I was finishing the semester teaching a kindergarten class English. The city government was turning the privately owned school into a public school because it was on public land, I think. The new administration said the government was taking over about 80 schools that were in similar situations. All the teachers had to sign new contracts under the new school’s name because the old school wouldn’t exist after the Lunar New Year holiday.… Read the rest

Macau

Macau

Jill had a few days off so we decided to get over to Macau. It’s about an hour long ferry ride from Shenzhen. Macau is split in two. There is the peninsula bordering China and an island next to it connected by a couple bridges. Macau is the most densely populated place in the world because it is so small. It is also one of the most wealthy places in the world because it is the only place in all of China where gambling is legal.… Read the rest
