And then, there was Ubud. June 7, 2021

Well, here we are again. It’s the third day in Bali or maybe the fourth, it’s a bit jumbled. On February third, 2020 the USA declared a public health emergency. Things were heating up. India confirmed a third case and Vietnam announced an eighth case.

Here’s a portion of a journal I wrote dated Feb. 4.

Jill’s doing yoga and I’m puttering about, being a tourist. I just wrote a postcard to Evan’s class which reminds me, I still need to address it. Ok, I am having a bit of fun here. I’m mainly relaxing and walking around the town some. It’s easy to be here…

It sure would be nice to live here a bit, though. I think Ubud is so convenient for Jill. What do I like about it?  I like: international people, travelers, delicious food. It feels like people aren’t here chasing a dollar, they are here to retreat from that. There are a lot or people here supporting us, the folks sitting in their shops waiting for a customer all day long, the taxi drivers with laminated taxi signs, and the beggars with their children sitting in the shade with hands out saying please, please, please.

*Evan is my nephew whose class was requesting postcards from far away. I sent several postcards to him and to his siblings, It appears they didn’t arrive.

*I remember those beggars, they were there on the Main Street for a couple days. Then I never saw them again. Am I hard hearted or street savvy for not giving them a few bucks? Probably some of both. The taxi drivers asked to give me a ride too, but I preferred to walk. After a few days they stopped asking.

I was busy poking around the town during the day and then showing Jill some amazing restaurant for supper. It was happy. I decided I needed to write some more of my experiences down. I didn’t act on that decision for a few more days.

Parked Motor Bikes
Ever since I rode a classic scooter around Vietnam I look for others. This is a pretty old Honda Cub. There are a lot of scooters in Bali.

Jill and I went for walks after she was finished with Yoga.
A Gecko on the wall
I found a little Gecko, so I took a picture.
Another Gecko on the wall
I found a much bigger Gecko
Bali Pop
Jill and I found a non-dairy handmade Popsicle shop. I took a picture with the cashier.
Pop Star Photo Op
They had a picture background on the wall. I think I had a coconut pop, it was perfecto.
