Today Jill and I had oatmeal for breakfast with bananas and granola. We walked to the Peleteria and I got my other shoe fixed finally. The cobbler sewed on the sole where it was coming off, first rate work. We paid for our 5 days of Spanish classes that start on Monday. Then we walked to find the organic market. We got bad directions twice. Then we asked the tourist office on the square and a woman there marked it on our map. We walked again to the place and didn’t see it. Jill was ready to give up and needed a bathroom. I decided to walk back the way we had come and find a restaurant and bathroom. Going past this intriguing Catering service building I noticed some people in the alcove. I suspected it was the market and went to check it out. Oftentimes here when you peak behind a drab front door, a beautiful space opens up just beyond. When I went in it seemed like we were coming back to Minneapolis in the summer. A few people with vegetables and many with lovingly crafted foods. I found Jill waiting on the street and told her to get over here. There was a bathroom and Jill came out looking full of life again. I zeroed in on some pizza and Jill happily discovered there was a vegan option. I chose a piece with some ham and chorizo on it. I dressed it with some green salsa. It was the most delicious pizza I’ve had in months. I wanted to eat everything he had. After the pizza Jill bought a little jar of Pesto from a woman selling arancinis. I bought some cheese from another vendor. We made our way back to the hostel feeling a little more at home. We wanted to rest and Jill took a little nap. I somehow found the energy to make a new lock for our door. I cleared a few more weeds and found wifi on a hill of rubble in the wilderness by our neighbor’s chickens. Jill awoke and we walked to a bookstore that is having a second anniversary party. It is called Abuelita books. Jill found useful CA and SA travel book. The key is that it is a small book and can fit in my… pack. Jill said she loved all the books there and I told her to get a job for a week. Now we’ve retreated to the Libre Cafe for some wifi and hot infusions. We don’t drink tea in the afternoon, we drink Infusions. I had a ginger infusion and Jill had a mint infusion. We’re so beyond tea.
