February in Vietnam

It seems like we’ve been in Vietnam for weeks yet it has been only one. We arrived in Saigon with apprehension so thick and we had nothing to break through it with. Before the end of 48 hours we were motoring our way to the coast on temperamental motorcycles. I’ve ridden something like it in distant memory and Jill drove one never before. Yet somehow in the terrifying traffic of Vietnam we found riding to be the best way to see this beautiful country. That first day seems like centuries ago. We’ve zigzagged from coast to mountains to coast. Along the way seemingly countless problems have hounded the bikes. With my friend and his basic Vietnamese the problems are never disastrous. Vietnam has a motorcycle mechanic on every corner and the cost for any repair has not gone north of $100 yet. Sometimes repairs are even free. We’re hunkered in Nha Trang for the lunar new year. Hopes are that we can make it to Hue before turning back for Saigon. We will see if the bikes agree.
