1/22/2015 San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala

We made it to San Marcos La Laguna! We even have a place to stay. The ride was by mini bus and involved a lot of curves, rocks, speed bumps, holes, etc. We arrived at dusk and made our way to the hostel. A pedestrian walk way leads everyone through an odd assortment of shops, holistic clinics, hotels, and restaurants. English is the easy language here. There are signs in Spanish, French, German, and usually English. This place feels like a movie. We walked around town his morning, farther above the lake are the Mayans. It looks like a regular Guatemalan town. Mayan is the language. Peppered amidst gorgeous trees and flowers are beautiful houses placed for us to envy. Birds are everywhere, flying above the overgrown fences. They see the block houses, tin roofs, and dirt yards hidden from our delicate eyes.
The lake beneath towering mountains and volcanoes is breathtaking. Water taxis endlessly traverse it’s mirrored surface. We have yet to swim in it but Jill said it was warm and many swim it’s depths.
Maybe tomorrow we will walk up a mountain.
